I imagine when we as people are broken and beaten up by life, that we also appear too hopeless for anyone to invest any time and energy into our lives. Yet, in God's eyes we are always worth whatever it takes to restore us. God always sees us as the finished product. He knows our potential. God helps us to fully become the person we were created to be. Just as my friend never gives up when refinishing a chair, God will never quit. He will always finish the good work He has started in us.

Children go to bed hungry every night in this country and in other nations. Suicide is the highest among teens. Our children are killing each other. Drugs, alcohol, pornography and gambling are addictions of epidemic proportions. Children are murdered every day by the minute through abortion. Spousal abuse is at the highest rate it has ever been. More people are in debt than ever before—85 percent of the people who lost their job today would have to proclaim bankruptcy within two to three months.

Sometimes our problems overwhelm us. I remember Susan jumping into a taxi after a morning of dealing with one crisis after another. She yelled to the taxi driver, "All right, let's get going." "Where do you want me to take you?" asked the taxi driver. Susan yelled back, "I don't care where you take me, I've got problems everywhere."

Most of my counseling is with couples who are having trouble in their marriage. Many of these couples feel hopeless that anything could be done to help their situation. However, for those who are willing to continue to seek God and implement some practical steps, great strides can be made toward restoring the intimacy of partnership.

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep. If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more.

Do you have a God-given dream that has not yet happened? If so, let me encourage you to hang onto your dream. Be faithful to God and His instructions. Don't be discouraged by how much time has gone by. Don't be discouraged that you (in the natural) are not the most qualified. If God gave the dream, though it tarries, wait—for it shall surely come to pass.

Do you ever feel like everything in your life is going wrong? Does it ever seem to you that everything you try to do falls apart? Do you try your best for good relationships and even with your best attempts find yourself sorely misunderstood? Do you ever feel like giving up and saying, "The heck with it all?"

There was a young man who was mistreated by his older brothers. They hated him and never spoke a peaceful word to him. Because the brothers envied him and were jealous of him, they made a plan to kill him by putting him into a pit to die. Later some men came along and the brothers sold him to the men to do with him as they pleased.

In my travels, I continually meet people who aren't fulfilling their destiny. They appear to be frustrated and without direction. When I talk with these individuals, I usually discover that they are allowing past mistakes to impact their present and determine their future.

What is entitlement thinking? It is an attitude or a way of looking at life. Those who have this attitude believe that others owe them. They believe they get something because they are owed it and they are entitled to it. They get what they want because of who they are, not because of what they do.
