Some knew him only as an evangelist, having preached in some 185 nations to over 200 million people. Others saw him as a counselor to heads of state, having counseled every sitting American president since Harry S. Truman. I saw him as a reconciler—a unifier of people, having marched with another great reconciler, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Selma.

The disciples and all those who followed Jesus were anxious to see the kingdom of God appear immediately. However, Jesus understanding that manifesting the kingdom of God on earth would take time he wanted to provide them with a way to understand this principle. (Reference Luke 19:11-24)

I imagine when we as people are broken and beaten up by life, that we also appear too hopeless for anyone to invest any time and energy into our lives. Yet, in God's eyes we are always worth whatever it takes to restore us. God always sees us as the finished product. He knows our potential. God helps us to fully become the person we were created to be. Just as my friend never gives up when refinishing a chair, God will never quit. He will always finish the good work He has started in us.

Children go to bed hungry every night in this country and in other nations. Suicide is the highest among teens. Our children are killing each other. Drugs, alcohol, pornography and gambling are addictions of epidemic proportions. Children are murdered every day by the minute through abortion. Spousal abuse is at the highest rate it has ever been. More people are in debt than ever before—85 percent of the people who lost their job today would have to proclaim bankruptcy within two to three months.

In my travels, I continually meet people who aren't fulfilling their destiny. They appear to be frustrated and without direction. When I talk with these individuals, I usually discover that they are allowing past mistakes to impact their present and determine their future.

Last night, a frantic call came from a former pastor. His wife had just left him. Tomorrow I will meet a young man in his fourth relationship and four children from four different women.

When miners dig for diamonds, they have to have an eye for seeing these precious stones when they are covered with dirt and crusted with other hard surfaces. Miners dig deep holes looking for this precious stone which is formed as a result of years of pressure applied to a lump of coal. It is a colorless stone, and is the hardest mineral known to man.

There is a time clock installed within all of us at birth that determines our sleeping and awakening patterns. For that reason, some of us are "day people" and some are "night people." That is, our circadian rhythm dictates our periods of creativity, sociability, and productivity.

Our fundamental challenge as believers is conceptual. Our interpretation or misinterpretation of historic principles, experiences and even people influence the nature and dimension of our faith. Since faith comes by hearing, then the quality of our faith depends upon the integrity of the gospel that we hear and believe.

There is evidence to support the idea that some revelation is dependent upon the interaction with other people. Such was the case of Apollos who was eloquent and mighty in the scriptures (Acts 18:24-26). Although he was fervent in spirit and taught diligently the things of the Lord, he only knew the baptism of John.
